I am all excited about iPhone entry to India. Initial reports suggested Apple teaming up with Vodafone. It worried me as I am using Airtel connection. I thought that I got to wait until number portability implementation and also wait for the number portability for iPhone. That will drag for months to happen. Thankfully, Apple goes non-exclusive deal in India. Both Vodafone and Airtel competes in India for iPhone sales. This is because Apple have deals with Vodafone and SingTel in other countries. So they naturally inherited the deal to their respective subsidiaries/stake holding companies in India.
The two telcos might try to bring new plans for iPhone connection in India for increasing their subscriber numbers. It would be great if they offer some plans for existing customers with really good data plans. Now the mobile data plans being offered by all telcos totally sucks. The average speed is not even comparable now-extinct dial up connection and the signals in most of the areas are nill.
I read couple of blogs/twitter that Apple could dump non-3G iPhones in India and other countries. This I guess unlikely, because the unavailability of iphones reports and the related stories suggest Apple is trying to create demand for 3G iPhones. And if Apple tries to dump non-3G phones in India, it will bring wrath from this part of the world, though the 3G spectrum availability India is altogether a different story.
So, in short, I want this to happen, (ideal case)
Apple introduces next-generation 3G iPhone in India. Airtel offering unlimited data plan to the new and as well as existing customers, at a reasonable cost, which is highly unlikely. And DoT allocates 3G spectrum at the same time!
I know I am too optimisitic! Lets wait and watch.
Now, in a lighter note, read the definition of iPhone by PTI. via cs .
Man, I am fainting!
