I was sneezing a lot yesterday. It was like “sucking out of me” feeling. My manager was sympathetic enough and recommended me to take off for rest of the day. My colleagues recommended the same. Some recommended to take ‘so & so’ medications. Some recommended to physicians. Some recommended to…..
‘Recommendation’ – hmmm, this reminding me of our politicians recommending their friends, relatives, their colleagues for Bharat Ratna award! Some one has taken right decision of not awarding this highest civilian award, given that myriad demands of politicians for their own selfish reasons. I am not against the whom they recommend, but the intent of recommendation. Our politicians are not for, “whom they recommend deserves the award”, but for the “after interests” it generates for them. Welcome to the world of Indian Politics.
I think it is shame itself of not awarding Bharat Ratna award for quite some time. At the same time, I am glad of not embarrassing ourselves of giving the award to the less deserving person. I was thinking about my candidates (even I do have recommendations!
)
First one, is Sachin Tendulkar. He is too familiar name to hit upon. But he truly deserves this award. He has done immensely to Indian cricket. My generation was brought upon with his batting. I think, Cricket in India really took off after 1983 world cup. And also I believe, because to this batting maestro, it continued to mill interests in hearts of millions of Indians, inspired many today young cricket stars & made millions to follow the game around the globe.
In my childhood, I will switch off my TV once he gets out, as there was a general opinion he was one man army. I don’t like to see Indian innings without him. My heart throbs if he was batting. It gives excitement, joy and pleasure to watch him play. I fantasized myself playing with him. He is a living legend. His birth, I think once in a millennium. Our generation is very lucky to have him in our amidst. His humility amazes me more than his batting. He is overloaded for 19 long years with millions of his fans’ expectations. I don’t want him to retire. Let him continue as long as possible giving us rare pleasure of watching brilliant talent at work, which I think people for next few generations might not lucky enough to watch.
I was listening to Harsha Bhogle interview the other day, where he was mentioning media spins all kinds of stuff. He had a point. He was telling what makes the news and what not. He told, if Rahul Dravid scored a century, it is not a news. If he gets out cheaply in consequent matches, then its news for you. Similarly, we often forget & fail to recognise the geniuses amidst us. We only realise when it is too late. Let’s not forget Sachin is a treasure we possess. He doesn’t need any kind of recognition or award. True geniuses rarely do. But it is our moral responsibility to give him back something. We should serve back the master who treating us for two decades. Give him what he deserves. Give him Bharat Ratna.
The other person I truly admire is Mr.Ratan Tata. His vision and leadership got us first home made car. It was against lot of criticism and negativity. He also done string of acquisitions – Corus, Jaguar/Land rover and now planning JV with Embraer- which puts India in global business map and made lot of people to take a look. And the recent Tata Nano shook the entire global automobile industry. The people who told Mr.Tata, that Nano is never feasible, now trying to all their hands to replicate in their backyard! He made TATA a truly global brand. If some one tries an idea giving Bharat Ratna to Ratan Tata, left parties will have field day!
What I observed from these exemplary personalities, is that their humility, simplicity and unassuming aura. These are traits of genius. We all want to imitate and imbibe them.

Hey Sai,
Sachin will definetly get it. No doubt about it.
But the problem is there are loads of other cricketers as well Sunny , Kapil, greats from other sports, VIshy Anand,hence the confusion arises.
But for sure, Sachin deserves it and he will get it hopefully

i would recommend sachin only if he had done some service along with his cricket. unless otherwise i wont recommend any sportsment as there is a award for them called arjuna award. same applies to cine stars.
Bharat Ratna is something above all. If you see cricket as the only criteria, sorry i wont agree.

sami,
From wikipedia, Bharat Ratna def goes like this:
Bharat Ratna (translates to Jewel of India[1] or Gem of India[2] in English) is India’s highest civilian award, awarded for the highest degrees of national service. This service includes artistic, literary, and scientific achievements, as well as “recognition of public service of the highest order.”
I also find recent awardees are Lata Mangeshkar and Ustad Bismillah Khan. If these legends can get award why can’t Sachin. Only difference is Sachin related to sports which does not come under artistic category. Sachin did (& doing) as equivalent what they did in his field.
