“Cosmos” – simply brilliant!

November 23rd, 2008 · 3 Comments · Books

It’s been a while I posted something here. So let me start up with a book review. Err! Not a review kind of, may be, just sharing few lines how good that book is!

I always get fascinated by science. Though I am just a science enthusiast, I relish them and like to share them.  This would sometimes, invite irk from my people. Can’t help! May be some book can help ‘em to come out of their scientific illiteracy? or their ill-science interests?

“Cosmos” by Carl Sagan, is one such book. Those who are already have science interests, this book is really fundu and can be used to re-kindle your brains cells.

Carl Sagan, writer of one of the most watched TV series in America, “Cosmos: A Personal Voyage”, has authored this book. He was an astronomer, author, popularizer of science, is brilliant in this book. His knowledge from physics to biology to scientific history to astronomy is mind blowing. His explanations are simple and down to earth, that any common man with least science initiation can easily grasp them. I loved reading the book. I kept reading, wanting to read till I finished it.

Astounding facts about outer space and the ways we are exploring it, like sending Voyager I & II space probe and the amount of knowledge we accrued so far from inter-stellar space, possibility of extra-terrestrial life and advance life forms in alien world of trillions & trillions of stars, bizarre number crunching distances, abundant hydrogen filled space & black holes, comets and how big bang could  have occurred and how life formed through extremely slow evolution on earth, Alexandria library and 500 BC – 7 AD scientists and their lost precious knowledge and thus postponing the modern discoveries till 15th century and many many many more.

This read, made me think, that when we open our minds, there are so much good things out there to consume and to cherish!

I recommed few videos on these lines, which I shared in one of my tweets recently. Only for those interested. Really good ones.
